False Friends in English and German

False friends (Falsche Freunde) are words in different languages that sound or are spelled similarly, but actually have different meanings. For example, in English the word CHEF means someone who makes food, and in German the word CHEF means the person at your company who tells you what to do.

These can be quite a confusing, but luckily there aren't too many of them between English and German. Here are a few that might cause a problem for you:
